Food prices rose in December for the second consecutive month, driven by higher prices for fruit, vegetables and meat.
Statistics New Zealand says food prices rose 0.2% in the month and are now 2.9% higher than the same time a year ago.
Prices were higher for potatoes, pumpkins, apples, meat, poultry, fish and sausages.
Soft drinks and fruit juice recorded the biggest price falls, although grocery prices also fell slightly.
