Green MP Gareth Hughes, who is running to become party co-leader, says he will move to Auckland if he is elected to the position.
Mr Hughes and fellow MPs Kevin Hague and James Shaw, as well as Green Party member Vernon Tava, are standing to be the Greens' male co-leader following the resignation of Russel Norman.
Mr Hughes told a candidates meeting in Auckland yesterday he believed it was essential that one of the party's two co-leaders was based in New Zealand's main city.
"I do think it's essential for the Greens to have a co-leader based in Auckland, it's our biggest city obviously, and it's an area where the Greens can improve their vote.
"And that's why I'm making a clear commitment to members that my family would move here if elected," said Mr Hughes.
The candidates will make their pitches to seven more provincial meetings over the next several weeks before the Greens' next male co-leader is elected at their AGM on 30 May.
