New Zealand Green Party MP Marama Davidson will fly back to New Zealand today after being detained in Israel.
Ms Davidson was on board a protest boat with 12 other women trying to reach Gaza when it was intercepted by Israeli defence forces.
According to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition which was supporting the Women's Boat to Gaza, the women were held in a prison in Ramla in central Israel.
Kia Ora Gaza organised for Ms Davidson to go on the protest voyage, and its chairperson, Roger Fowler, said the outcome of the protest was not surprising.
"That was the most likely end but the hoped-for end was that the Israelis would see sense, that their violation of international law would be condemned around the world - and it has been - and that perhaps this time they would allow a protest boat through."
Mr Fowler said Ms Davidson was expected to arrive back in the country tomorrow morning.
