The Labour Party has launched a campaign to gather support for legislation aimed at giving more protection to people made redundant.
The bill, in the name of Labour's Darien Fenton, has been drawn from the ballot.
It would give employees facing redundancy no less than four weeks' notice and compensation of four weeks' wages for the first year of continuous employment.
They would also get the equivalent of two weeks' pay for each year of employment after that, to a maximum of 26 weeks.
Ms Fenton says the bill already has the support of the Greens and the Maori Party but would need support from National to pass.
