Blueberry crop looks to be a belter

9:12 am on 5 November 2013

Blueberry growers say they're excited that this season could produce a blueberry bonanza as growing conditions through the spring have been excellent, with just the right balance of sun and rain.

Blueberries New Zealand chairman Dan Peach says he's been getting reports from growers around the country who are expecting a bumper crop.

Mr Peach says it's still too early in the season to accurately forecast the size of this year's crop.

Last season, the sector grew 1800 tonnes of blueberries.

Harvesting of the crop is already underway in the north of the North Island, and the harvest will gradually move south over the next six months.
