The Silver Ferns have been beaten 54-41 by England in their opening Quad Series game in Liverpool.
Commonwealth Games champions England got off to a strong start, but the Ferns pegged it back and led briefly in the second quarter.

The England captain Serena Guthrie asked for more from her side in the second half and got it as they started strongly and extended their lead.
Both sides defended well and New Zealand had trouble getting the ball into the shooting circle.

When they did they were quite often forced to shot from long distance.
The Roses' defence was the deciding factor in the match with New Zealand only able to make 45 attempts on goal to England's 66.
England also had 10 intercepts to the Ferns' three. New Zealand also had 28 turnovers to England's 19.
The Ferns cause wasn't helped by having defender Karin Burger sin-binned for two minutes for foul play.
Ferns captain Laura Langman says half time was a turning point in the game.
"England were clinical in the second half, they maintained their intensity, I think that was the difference."
"I was happy with our first half, but the icing on the cake would be knowing when we're in those situations where we can keep the full-court pressure on."
It is England's fourth straight win over New Zealand.
Earlier Australia came from behind to beat South Africa 62-45.
In the second round of matches next weekend New Zealand play Australia and England play South Africa in London.
