Brady arrived at her first Grand Slam semi-final without having dropped a set in New York and did not show any nerves but Osaka's firepower allowed her to get by the American 28th seed in a high-quality match.

Fourth seed Osaka, who two years ago in New York won the first of two consecutive Grand Slam titles, fired 35 winners, and had 17 unforced errors inside Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Osaka's victory ended a splendid U.S. Open run for Brady, whose previous best Grand Slam performances came in 2017 when she reached the fourth round in Melbourne and New York.

Up next for Osaka will be either third seed Serena Williams or former world number one Victoria Azarenka of Belarus.

The Tigers' Luke Brooks and Souths' Dane Gagai both spent time in the sin-bin after punching each other in the head during the match.

The Tigers also had a man sent ot the sin bin for a professional foul leaving them with just 11 players on the field at one point.

However they stuill managed to fightback from 20-0 down, with Benji Marshall helping Wests lay on three tries before ultimately losing the game.

The Tigers are now ninth, four points outside the top eight finals places with two games remaining.

If Cronulla beat the Warriors on Sunday, the NRL's top eight will be set in stone.

Souths are now fifth and in the hunt for a home final.

Day counter to be reset for second round of Tour coronavirus tests

Tour de France organisers have performed a U-turn to remove the danger of expulsion for tour teams who had been on a knife edge after positive COVID-19 tests.

Another test for Ineos-Grenadiers, AG2R-La Mondiale, Mitchelton-Scott or Cofidis will not mean that they will be ejected from the race if they have another one in the next round of tests, two sources with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters.

The rules state that should two members of a team test positive for coronavirus within a seven-day period, the whole outfit will be excluded from the race.

Organisers, in consultation with the French government, have decided, however, that the counters would be reset for the next round of tests on Sept. 13-14.

The news comes one day after race interim director Francois Lemarchand said that "teams who had received one positive test would be excluded if there was another from the next battery of tests, after consultation with the International Cycling Union and French health authorities."

That has now changed.

"We are resetting the counters for the next round of tests. However, if before those tests one of the four teams has another positive then they will be out," one of the sources told Reuters.

Half of each team was tested last Sunday and the other half last Monday. They will be tested again next Sunday and Monday in the same way.

Vettel to join Aston Martin from Ferrari in 2021

Four-time Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel will race for Aston Martin, the renamed Canadian-owned Racing Point team, on a multi-year deal after leaving Ferrari at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old German replaces Mexican Sergio Perez, who had a long-term contract but whose departure at the end of the 2020 season was announced on Thursday.

The statement did not give details but said Vettel, who won his titles for Red Bull between 2010-13, had signed up "for 2021 and beyond."

Vettel, winner of 53 grands prix, has had a tough time at Ferrari since the arrival of Monegasque Charles Leclerc, with the youngster beating him on wins, podiums, points and poles last season.

Ferrari have struggled this year but announced in May, before the season had even started, that Vettel would be leaving at the end of the year.

He will be replaced by Spaniard Carlos Sainz from McLaren.
