NZ doubles player Venus wins opening match in Melbourne

New Zealand doubles player Michael Venus and his Australian partner John Peers have won their opening match at the Australian Open to advance to the second round.

The 10th seeds claimed a straight sets 6-3 6-2 victory over Australia's Alex De Minaur and Matt Reid.

The pair next play Korean wildcards Min-Kyu Song and Ji Sung Nam.

Fellow New Zealand doubles players Artem Sitak and Marcus Daniell begin their respective campaigns on Thursday.
