Latest - Six-times world champion Marc Marquez led from start to finish to secure a seventh win at the Grand Prix of the Americas as Fabio Quartararo finished in second to strengthen his grip on the MotoGP world championship race.

Honda's Marquez, who was third on the grid, made an impressive start as he charged through the first turn to grab the lead ahead of pole sitter Francesco Bagnaia and Quartararo, eventually opening a gap of more than four seconds with five laps to go.

Yamaha rider Quartararo leads Italian Bagnaia on a Ducati by 52 points with three rounds to go and can clinch the title at Misano in three weeks' time.

Bagnaia struggled after his poor opening and slipped down to sixth before going past a fading Jorge Martin of Pramac Ducati with three laps remaining to salvage third place. Alex Rins of Suzuki Ecstar came fourth.

City grab draw at Anfield

Manchester City came from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw with Liverpool in a pulsating Premier League encounter at Anfield.

Kevin de Bruyne's deflected late equaliser gave City a fully deserved point after a moment of genius by Mohamed Salah looked to have earned Liverpool victory at Anfield.

Salah put Liverpool 2-1 ahead in the 76th minute with a stunning individual goal, twisting and turning to lose his defenders before firing home.

Chelsea top the table with 16 points, Liverpool have 15, City manchester United, Everton and Brighton have 14.

Yoanne Wissa struck a dramatic 94th-minute winner to give Brentford a 2-1 victory over West Ham United.

Brentford moved up to seventh in the table with 12 points. West Ham are a point behind in ninth.

Tottenham Hotspur ended a run of three successive defeats as Pierre-Emile Hojberg and a Matt Targett own goal secured a 2-1 home win over Aston Villa.

Victory lifted Tottenham to eighth place with 12 points while the end of Villa's three-match unbeaten league run left them 10th with 10 points.

Crystal Palace fought back from two goals down to earn a 2-2 home draw with Leicester City.

The result left Leicester 13th in the table on eight points with Palace one point behind them in 14th.

Meanwhile manager Xisco Munoz has left Watford after less than a year in charge with the team 14th in the Premier League table.

Lawson in front

New Zealand driver Liam Lawson has grabbed the lead in the German Touring Car Championship with one round remaining.

Lawson, driving a ferrari, finished second to Mercedes driver Lucas Auer of Austria in the second race at Hockenheim.

The 19 year old was fourth in the opening race of the weekend.

Lawson has a 14 point lead over South African Audio driver Kelvin van der Linde in the championship.

The final round is next weekend.

He will then return to F2 where he is eighth in the standings.

Thrilling finish to London marathon

Kenya's Joyciline Jepkosgei won a thrilling women's London Marathon in two hours, 17 minutes and 43 seconds as world record holder and defending champion Brigid Kosgei faded late in the race to finish outside the podium places.

Sisay Lemma of Ethiopia was a comfortable winner of the elite men's race in a time of 2:04.01, crossing the line 27 seconds ahead of Kenya's Vincent Kipchuma with Ethiopian Mosinet Geremew third.

Jepkosgei, the reigning New York Marathon champion, smashed her personal best of 2:18.40 on her debut in the British capital, becoming the seventh fastest woman in history.

The 28-year-old finished 15 seconds ahead of Ethiopian Degitu Azimeraw whose compatriot Ashete Bekere came third.

Kosgei, competing eight weeks after claiming silver at the Tokyo Games, was aiming for a third consecutive victory in London. The 27-year-old rallied briefly but finished fourth in 02:18.40.

The marathon, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in April, returned to its traditional route from Blackheath to The Mall for the first time in over two years.

More than 36,000 competitors joined some of the world's best in the mass participation event and up to 40,000 took part virtually, organisers said.

Only elite races took place last year on a course around St James's Park, with amateurs last competing in 2019.

PSG beaten

Paris St-Germain's 100% start in Ligue 1 was ended by Rennes as Lionel Messi suffered his first defeat since arriving at the club.

The hosts scored two quick goals either side of half-time through Gatetan Laborde and Flavien Tait.

Mauricio Pochettino's side did not have a single shot on target, despite Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe all starting.

The defeat is PSG's first in Ligue 1 since April, when they were beaten by last season's eventual champions Lille.

PSG, beaten in the pre-season Trophy of champions by Lille, stayed top of the standings with 24 points, six ahead of second-placed RC Lens.

Rennes moved up to seventh on 12 points.

Pink ball test ends in a draw

Australia and India settled for a draw in the women's pink-ball cricket test on the Gold Coast in a game that fluctuated for four days but failed to produce a result due to rain.

The match was set up nicely on the final day after Ellyse Perry (68 not out) and Ashleigh Gardner (51) helped Australia save the follow-on, with captain Meg Lanning declaring on 241-9 and handing India a 136-run lead in the hope of forcing a result.

India openers Smriti Mandhana (31) and Shafali Verma (52) impressed again as they propelled the touring side to 135-3, setting Australia 271 to chase with 32 overs left in the match. The hosts, however, could reach only 36-2 in 15 overs before both captains shook hands for a draw.

The sides meet in the first of three Twenty20s at the same venue on Thursday.

Italian wins Paris-Roubaix

Sonny Colbrelli became the first Italian to win the Paris-Roubaix Monument classic in 22 years when he prevailed in a three-man sprint finish at the end of a gruelling race.

His whole body covered in mud after 257.7 kilometres featuring 30 cobbled sectors, Colbrelli burst into tears as he collapsed on the grass of the Roubaix Velodrome after triumphing in the first rain-hit edition of the Hell of the North since 2002.

The European champion, of Team Bahrain Victorious, pipped Belgian Florian Vermeersch (Lotto Soudal) and Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Fenix), who were second and third respectively.

Van der Poel, one of the pre-race favourites, came up just short after doing most of the work in a small group chasing Italian Gianni Moscon, who seemed to be heading to victory before a puncture and late crash ruined his chances.

Evans wins in Finland, Ogier closes in on WRC title

Elfyn Evans won Rally Finland to keep alive his world championship hopes and cut Toyota team mate Sebastien Ogier's overall lead to 24 points with two rounds remaining.

The Welshman secured his fifth career win by finishing 14.1 seconds ahead of Hyundai's Estonian Ott Tanak, the 2019 world champion who had been chasing his third successive win in the gravel event.

Ireland's Craig Breen, the leader after the first leg, was third for Hyundai with Finnish driver Esapekka Lappi fourth for Toyota and Ogier fifth in the fastest round on the calendar.

Frenchman, Ogier, chasing his eighth world title, can wrap up the title at the next round in Spain in a fortnight if results go his way.

The season ends at Italy's Monza circuit in November.
