In the three-team final match race in Plymouth, England, New Zealand triumphed over fellow event final debutants, Denmark and season standing leaders, Australia.
Before the day's official racing, Sir Ben Ainslie's British F50 was driven by The Duchess of Cambridge in a friendly Commonwealth race against New Zealand, accompanied by UN Patron for the Ocean Lewis Pugh, on the event racecourse, with the home team emerging victorious.
The Duchess also visited the SailGP technical site in her role as Patron of the 1851 Trust, the official charity of the Great Britain SailGP Team, where she joined a group of children taking part in the Protect Our Future sustainability program.
New Zealand bounced back from its loss to the Duchess of Cambridge in the best way possible, winning the second race of day two to secure a place in its first event final, and then storming to the Great Britain Sail Grand Prix win.
Skipper Peter Burling said: "I think a lot of people would have expected this of us by now and it's great to have put together a good weekend and put in such a dominant performance. We have been working really hard to improve and I think we truly proved that today, we are just so much more comfortable with the boat now than we have been."
Lydia Ko fifth in Scotland
A disappointing final round one under par 71 dropped Lydia Ko out of contention at the Scottish Open.

Ko had started the final day in a tie for the lead, but was unable to stay at the top of the leaderboard.
The world number four mixed three birdies with two bogeys.
Ayake Furue came through with a magnificent 10 under par 62 to came a three shot victory.
Celine Boutier of France who had shared the lead with Ko finished second.
The final major of the year the Women's Open Championship is this week.
Meanwhile on the World Tour Daniel Hillier has finished tied for 12th at the Hero Open in Scotland.
SVG continues to dominate
A cleansweep at the latest round of the Australian Supercars in South Australia has New Zealand driver Shane van Gisbergen close to a record.

Van Gisbergen won his fourth and fifth races in a row in 2022 yesterday.
Those wins also helped Holden win the 2022 manufacturers award.
Van Gisbergen has won 14 of 23 races this season, and has already matched his career-best tally set last year.
With 11 races remaining, van Gisbergen is now a serious threat to countryman Scott McLaughlin's season wins record.
McLaughlin won a record 18 races en route to the 2019 championship.
Van Gisbergen now leads Anton de Pasquale in the Drivers' Championship standings by 323 points.
The next round is in Melbourne.
Van Vleuten wins Tour
Dutch rider Annemiek van Vleuten won the Tour de France Femmes after she tamed the brutal ascent to La Super Planche des Belles Filles in the final stage to grab the overall victory.
Van Vleuten came under pressure midway through the stage as she underwent mechanical issues that forced her to change her bike on three occasions.
The Movistar rider also faced several attacks by rival teams but she proved why she is the best climber as she accelerated away on the final ascent, sealing the overall title after crossing the finish line 30 seconds ahead of second-placed Demi Vollering.
It was Olympic time trial champion Van Vleuten's second stage win following her climbing masterclass in the penultimate stage.
Vollering of SD Worx came second in the overall standings, nearly four minutes adrift of Van Vleuten, while Katarzyna Niewiadoma of Canyon-SRAM completed the general classification podium after eight days of intense racing since the start in Paris.
The Tour de France Femmes is the first time in 33 years that the best female racers have been given the chance to compete in a multi-stage version of the world's greatest cycle race.

Waikato pip Wellington
Champions Waikato have joined Canterbury at the top of the Farah Palmer Cup Premiership standings after beating Wellington 23-16 in their round three game in Porirua.
Canterbury had the bye this round and so they along with Waikato and Bay of Plenty are two from two.
Bay of Plenty scored the upset of the round beating Auckland 7-3.
Otago top the Championship standings with two wins from two after beating Northland 39-10.
Pena needs surgery
Julianna Pena needed immediate medical attention following a devastating loss to Amanda Nunes in the main event of UFC 277 in Dallas.
With the victory, Nunes, the greatest women's fighter in MMA history, reclaimed the UFC women's bantamweight title she lost to Peña at UFC 269 in December.
American Pena was knocked down multiple times and sustained a large cut to her head. Brazilian Nunes won by decision.
"Julianna's got a big chunk missing from her forehead," UFC president Dana White said in the post-fight news conference.
"She's going to see a plastic surgeon and she'll take some time to heal, and then I don't know.
New Zealand's Kai Kara-France was beaten by Mexican Brandon Moreno in his interim flyweight title fight.
