Less than two weeks out from the World Cup in South Africa, New Zealand have scored a last-gasp try to beat Fiji 28-21 in the title decider in Los Angeles.

The final was locked at 14-14 at halftime, with the two teams trading tries in the second spell before Moses Leo dotted down for the match-winner with less than a minute remaining.

New Zealand only played the last five rounds of the 2022, finishing eighth overall.

Australia were crowned series champions with a 21-7 victory over Samoa in the bronze medal match.

South Africa were second overall and Fiji third.

Earlier in Los Angeles, New Zealand beat Ireland 29-14 in the quarter-finals and in the semi-finals came from behind to beat Samoa 28-26 with a try to Sione Molia after the hooter.

Fiji beat Australia 29-10 in their semi-final.

The sevens World Cup kicks off in Cape Town on September 9th.
