The Black Caps captain Kane Williamson will miss the third T20 cricket international against India in Napier tomorrow due to a medical appointment.

In a statement New Zealand Cricket said the medical appointment had nothing to do with Williamson's historic elbow complaint.

"Kane's been trying to get this booked in for a while now, but unfortunately it hasn't been able to fit into our schedule," said coach Gary Stead.

Williamson will rejoin the side in Auckland on Wednesday ahead of the three game one day series which starts at Eden Park on Friday.

Auckland batsman Mark Chapman has been called in to T20 side as Williamson's replacement with Tim Southee to take over the captaincy.

India lead the series 1-nil, after game one in Wellington was washed out due to rain.
