New Zealand were 63 for 5 at stumps on day three chasing England's victory target of 394.

England wrapped up their second innings in dominant fashion with a total of 374 runs as Joe Root top scored with 57.

Also accumulating scores were Harry Brooks with 54, and Ben Foakes who chipped in with 51.

Falling just short of his half century was Ollie Pope on 49.

New Zealand were swamped in their second innings reply.

Paceman Stuart Broad ripped through the Black Caps batting order, with New Zealand's top three batters Devon Conway, Tom Latham and Kane Williamson skittled by the English veteran.

Then Henry Nicholls fell for 7 to right arm pacer Ollie Robinson.

Broad then returned to take the wicket of first innings century maker, Tom Blundell, out for just 1.

The pick of the New Zealand bowlers were offspinner Michael Bracewell who claimed 3 for 68 and test debutant Blair Tickner who took 3 for 55.

Earlier in the day England captain Ben Stokes broke the record for the most sixes overall in test cricket after hitting his 108th on day three.

Stokes surpassed England coach and former New Zealand Brendon McCullum's mark.
