A University of Auckland lecturer has written the first ever te reo Maori article in an educational journal.
Georgina Stewart wrote the article 'Te take kahore ahau e tuhi rangahau ki te reo Maori', or 'the reason I do not write research in Maori' for the New Zealand Journal of Educational Studies.
The publication is the official journal of the Association for Research in Education.
Dr Stewart, who lectures at Te Puna Wananga School in the Faculty of Education, looked at the pros and cons of writing research in Maori.
She said the process of writing the article highlighted the importance of Te Reo to her, but also the difficulties faced while doing it.
For example, Dr Stewart said she would continue to write her mahi in English, so she can engage in the global debates that surround educational research.
