The Police Commissioner has suggested something similar to a scholarship might be created to encourage Tūhoe rangatahi to become officers.
Mike Bush has confirmed the police leadership team wants to leave a lasting legacy which acknowledges officers scared children and whanau when armed raids were carried out in Te Urewera in 2007.
Police are this week hosting more than 70 tamariki, rangatahi, kaiako (teachers) and whanau members in Wellington.
They were invited to the capital as part of an ongoing police apology to Ngāi Tūhoe whānaunga for the way they carried out the raids.
