A tangihanga for the dearly-loved Far North welfare advocate Ricky Houghton will begin at Pāmapūria this afternoon.
He spent decades lifting others out of poverty, homelessness, addiction and imprisonment - and died this week, aged 62.
Houghton had been laying in Tāmaki Makaurau but was expected to arrive at Te Paatu marae near Kaitāia at about 3pm.
His cousin Judy May Latimer will call him home, as a kaikaranga.
She said she would miss her cousin's big laugh, his big cry and his aroha, and that he was willing to help anyone.
