Labour leader Chris Hipkins has been at Tuurangawaewae this morning to pay his respects to Kiingi Tuheitia.

Former prime minister Helen Clark and Minister Willie Jackson were also welcomed on to the marae this morning, while Kiingitangi confirmed details of Kiingi Tuheitia's funeral tomorrow and that his successor would be named then.

Thousands of mourners have been gathering at Tuurangawaewae Marae to pay their respects to Kiingi Tuheitia Pootatau Te Wherowhero VII this week, with the people of Tainui epitomising the Māori value of Manaakitanga - or hospitality - during the tangihanga of Kiingi Tuheitia.

This afternoon the coalition and the Greens will take part in the 2pm pōwhiri with Acting Prime Minister Winston Peters leading the coalition contingent arriving at Tuurangawaewae Marae.
