Delayed onset

The Maori Party says the Human Rights Commission's delay in releasing its report on the 2007 Te Urewera police raids is ridiculous.

The party's co-leader, Te Ururoa Flavell, says a draft report was produced about three years ago, which was discussed with the whanau affected by Operation 8.

Mr Flavell says the only other explanations would appear to be serious incompetence by the Commission, or political concerns about releasing what he calls an embarrassing report.

But the Human Rights Commission says it's in the final stages of consulting on the report and in the process of collecting feedback from Tuhoe.
