A court in Brazil has ordered the suspension of all construction work at a World Cup football stadium in the city of Manaus where a builder fell to his death.
The Public Prosecutor's Office had asked for all work be halted until the company responsible presented a detailed report on the safety conditions of the site.
The construction worker plunged more than 30 metres from a roof at the stadium building site and died in hospital on Saturday. The Arena da Amazonia is one of six World Cup stadiums where construction is running behind schedule.
Hours later, another worker died of a heart attack at a nearby site. His family said he was overworked.
Half the 12 stadiums being built for the tournament are behind schedule. Authorities say working conditions are "unacceptably dangerous" and the contractors could be fined.
In its request for work to be halted the Public Prosecutor's Office said it cannot allow the urgency of finishing construction for the 2014 World Cup to be at the cost of the life and well-being of those working on it.
