As wild or intense as that sounds, Kelly’s music is actually very mellow and often backed with an acoustic guitar. He labels his sound "folk music" but, he says, recent songs have been about “Death and sex. Pretty much.”

“That seems to be what life’s about, is dying and trying to find someone to die with” Kelly says and laughs," he says.

Thomas Lambert is a producer who works with Kelly on instrumentals, he also half owns the music label they work from called Sonorous Music. Based in Wellington, the pair began ventured into the music business as a means to continue music without outside-industry complications.

“I find that a lot of music isn’t about music anymore, it’s about having a party and getting drunk,” says Lambert.

“But it can be so transformative when you really embrace music and let it wash over you completely,” Lambert says.
