All but about 300 properties in Auckland have electricity reconnected after two days without power for thousands in the city, lines company Vector says.
Crews worked in hail, rain and high winds to restore power to most of the households that have had no electricity since a fire at Transpower's Penrose substation on Sunday morning cut power to dozens of suburbs.
Vector spokesperson Sandy Hodge said the main St Johns feeder was restored overnight, allowing all but 324 customers to have power this morning.
She told Radio New Zealand those without power are in the periphery of the eastern suburbs, though others may temporarily lose power again as the morning peak puts pressure on the network.
Everyone should have power again by midday, Hodge said.
