Dance director Alexa Wilson questions what she sees as the increasing commercialisation of the world in her work The Status of Being.
It tackles themes of choice, perception and options, she says. “We can choose our reality and perhaps we choose to be engineered.”
The audience is invited to be part of the show, so that they’re not just spectators being entertained by the performers.
“It’s quite powerful, asking big questions that are quite topical at the moment in a way that’s accessible to the general public,” Wilson says.
“But it also has tiers, so that the people who want to see deeper meanings can feel satisfied by all these questions and deconstructive elements and questions around media.”
The Status Of Being is touring the North Island through until October 25.
