A hard question for Christchurch school leavers

“What are you going to do after high school?” can be a dreaded question. For level three students in New Zealand, it’s a reality.  

But for young people in Christchurch who are deciding where to study next year there are many more questions. Nearly four years on from the Christchurch earthquake, do you stay or do you go? And does the earthquake influence the decision you make?

Some feel challenged by the rebuild, the constant talk of earthquakes, EQC and insurance repairs. Others see Christchurch as a place that is continuing to grow, enticed by the opportunity to become a part of a city that is reinventing itself in a modern landscape and having a say on the form it takes.

Is Christchurch ready to be a student city? Here’s what level three students from Christchurch’s Cashmere High School, Riccarton High School and Avonside High School had to say.
