David Dallas 'Shenanigan' Sessions: The first of the just-announced 'Shenanigan' parties, which sees David Dallas hosting and bringing together his favourite DJs to play "s*** you actually wanna hear", takes place from 2pm this Sunday at Grey Lynn's Malt bar. There's no entry fee and for the first in the series of parties there'll be sets from Che Kamikaze, Fire & Ice's Jordache and P-Money. More info here.
The X Factor NZ: The new season of X Factor NZ premieres this weekend on TV3 with the audition phase of the show taking place over Sundays-Mondays-Tuesdays for the next couple of weeks. We're going all-in with our coverage of the series and you can check back in with us on Monday for more. In the meantime, check out the extended preview of the show.
Marlon Williams & the Yarra Benders: Lyttleton's Marlon Williams, who now resides in Melbourne and has a new album set for release in April, begins his four-date tour of the country which starts tomorrow night in Dunedin. The tour, which also includes shows in Christchurch, Auckland and Wellington, is in support of his latest single 'Dark Child', and you can find tickets and dates over at Under The Radar.
Cricket World Cup: Sri Lanka and New Zealand kick off the first match of the ICC Cricket World Cup this Saturday at Hadley Oval in Christchurch. All up, the tournament will hold 49 matches over 44 days throughout Australia and NZ. Tickets available to purchase here.
Spook The Horses: Wellington post-hardcore outfit Spook The Horses, have just released their latest album Rainmaker and begin their tour this weekend with shows at Wellington's San Fran on Friday and Whanganui's Space Monster on Saturday. They'll be joined German experimental noise-rock band DŸSE for both shows. You can take a listen to their interview with Music 101 here where they discuss the new album and how it signals a distinct change in sound and aesthetic for the band.
Citizenfour: Laura Poitras' Oscar-nominated documentary, which follows Edward Snowden and the unfolding of the NSA spying scandal, is out in cinemas today. Watch the trailer below.
Pikachunes: Wellington-based musician Pikachunes is lining up his sophomore album Allely for release this winter and is playing the album in its entirety at Meow this Friday with She's So Rad (who are apparently playing a disco DJ set). Take a listen to the first single 'Writer's Block', which premiered over at Under The Radar, and pre-purchase tickets for $10 to his show here.
Straight Outta Compton: The first trailer for the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton is finally here. Judging from the preview, which is preceded by a short clip of Dr. Dre and Ice Cube riding through South LA, where it all started, the movie will highlight the group's remarkable rise rather than their acrimonious fallout with each other. It's rumoured to be out this August.
