Bic Runga and Tiny Ruins: Dunedin’s Mayfair Theatre is the first stop for Bic Runga and Tiny Ruins’ joint tour that begins tonight and continues tomorrow evening at the Oamaru Opera House. The pair, who are playing six dates all up, will debut new material (Bic just released her latest single ‘I Dreamed A Dream’), play on each other’s songs and handpick a few covers to perform as well. The Golden Dawn Night Market: The night markets are back at Golden Dawn this evening from 4pm-9pm, which will see “an eclectically excellent selection of books, bric-a-brac, clothing, records and hand-made jewellery” for sale. Local band Ghost Wave will also be DJing from 8pm. Get in early and remember to take cash as the bar will have a limited amount.
Marlon Williams: After recently playing a series of shows in the UK and Europe, Marlon Williams is back in the country for four dates beginning tonight at Bodega and continuing over the following nights in Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin. He’ll be joined by Australian songwriter Laura Jean, before heading over the ditch for a bunch more shows with her in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney. Great Job! Festival: This Friday and Saturday sees Palmerston North venue Great Job! hold their first all-ages festival. The huge lineup features a bunch of local alternative acts from around the country including Disasteradio, New Gum Sarn, Seth Frightening, Totems and more. As the organisers of the festival charmingly recommend: “crash Palmy for the weekend, we’ll treat you right and show the sights and scum of our fair provincial city.”
95bFM Breakfast Club: Early risers can catch 95bFM’s breakfast show being broadcast this Friday at Real Groovy Auckland with bands Heroes For Sale and Rackets performing live in store from 8.15am. Rackets have just announced a 20 show album release tour in Auckland alone and for Friday morning there’ll be free coffee for bCard holders and a 10 per cent discount for those shopping in store between 8am-9am. And of course, Real Groovy are relocating, if you didn’t already know, so enjoy it before it’s gone.
Loggcabin: If you haven’t listened to it before, catch up this weekend on Red Bull Studios’ Loggcabin. The monthly podcast sees Mark Williams aka MC Slave host interviews with some of the country’s most talented and influential music personalities, and past episodes include chats with Dawn Raid, Tom Scott, Julien Dyne and more. Nadia Reid: Auckland-based folk singer/songwriter Nadia Reid begins a six date tour of the country tonight, starting with a show alongside Steve Abel at The Wine Cellar. The tour marks her “impending departure” from her hometown and is also a celebration of her album getting a vinyl release in the US and Australasia. The recent Spunk Records signee also says she has more exciting projects on the go, which she’s yet to reveal.
