For NZ Music Month, we're asking local musicians to tell us about the New Zealand songs they love the most. Today, Miloux fills us in on a few of her new favourites.

Doprah - San Pedro

I was lucky enough to play a show with Doprah a while back and instantly loved their sound. They have some fantastic tracks but I think this is my all time favourite. All the little elements and effects come together so wonderfully. This kind of music makes me want to write music!

Chelsea Jade - Night Swimmer

Chelsea is the best ! I adore everything she's made but I was feeling Night Swimmer today - it's a gorgeous video too. This is ticking all my boxes - distinctive, beautiful voice, imagery, songwriting. I'm always excited to see new work from Chelsea. (See also: her Low Brow video with wacky arm-flailing inflatable tubemen.) <3

Heavy - Coming Out

Ok so these guys are so lovely and polite and then they go on stage and turn savage af and I love it.

Amazing production, lyrics, and live set; I'm loving the ridiculously high quality of local live acts at the moment. This song was one of their first releases I think, and it and the video are so gooood.

The Beths - Warm Blood

#1 fan over here. These are friends but I can say with no exaggeration that they are incredibly skilled musicians, and The Beths one of my favourite projects of theirs to date. Liz is the best frontwoman and songwriter ever! Marry me! Warm Blood has some nice little harmonic surprises and the whole debut EP has such a good vibe. One of my favourite bands to see live too.

Miss June - Matriarchy

I fell in love with this song after seeing this live version a while back. Annabel is another fantastic frontwoman (I see a trend emerging here.) Great lyrics ! Great energy. 10/10.

Five songs is too few to fit in all the great music around at the moment (LarzRanda, Yoko-Zuna, High Hoops, Totems, Trip Pony, so many others..) or even to get started on the big influential stuff from when I was growing up, or the awesome jazz scene. But basically NZ music is fantastic and I'm very happy to be a part of it.
