Police have arrested seven people after reports a firearm was fired during a confrontation in a Palmerston North suburb.
Detective Sergeant Dave Wilson said about 10.30am on 15 March, police were called to the incident in Highbury, but those involved had left before officers arrived.
After an investigation, seven people were charged in relation to the incident. But more arrests were "likely", Wilson said.
"This was an incredibly reckless act in a public area and it is important that those responsible for it are held to account," he said.
"We are committed to ensuring our community is a safe place."
He urged people to continue to call 111 when crime was happening, and to report information to police on the 105 line or anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
