Getting around to organise Christmas could be a bit easier this year with Taranaki buses free to ride each Friday in December until the big day.
Taranaki Regional Council said fare-free Fridays aimed to spread some Christmas cheer and help whānau get around more affordably and sustainably.
The council's transport engagement manager Cheryl Gazley said free rides leading up to Christmas would encourage new riders to try the bus for shopping, reward regular users and help everyone save a little seasonal pūtea.
"It's a stress-free way to get into town and back without worrying about parking or traffic during one of the busiest times of the year."
On Friday 6, 13 and 20 December anyone can ride for free on any urban Citylink, school Citylink, Connector, Your Connector and Southlink bus services.
Usually $5, bus-riding Bee Cards will be free at local shops on those days.
It came after TRC backed free pahi for World Car-Free Day in September.
"We were thrilled by the 22 per cent increase in passenger numbers from our last fare-free day and received great feedback," said Gazley.
"We hope that by offering fare-free Fridays, people will again enjoy the convenience, cost savings and eco-friendly benefits of taking the bus."
