Two people who travelled from Dubai to Melbourne on 30 November are confirmed to have the Omicron strain, while genomic sequencing is under way to confirm if a third Covid-positive person on the flight is carrying the Omicron variant.

NSW confirms new cases of Omicron, three deaths

Three new cases of the Covid-19 Omicron variant have been confirmed in New South Wales and authorities have warned more are expected.

There are currently 45 cases with the Omicron variant throughout the state but none have required treatment in hospital.

Covid-19 cases have spiked in the latest 24 reporting period to 8pm last night with 560 new locally acquired Covid-19 cases compared to yesterday's 516 cases.

Three people died in the 24 hours to 8pm yesterday, including a man in his 80s who had received three doses of a vaccine, while the other two, a woman in her 70s and another man in his 80s had had two Covid-19 vaccine doses.

All three people who died of Covid-19 had underlying health conditions.

There are 150 people in hospital, with 25 in intensive care.

NSW Health has reiterated warnings about pubs and nightclubs being drivers of transmission.

"The transmission in these types of settings is contributing to the increase in cases in NSW and we urge people not to attend social functions if they have any symptoms, even if mild," a spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, ACT recorded 11 new community cases of Covid-19 and Queensland recorded on new case.
