A French woman has been kidnapped by armed men on a resort island in Kenya and taken to Somalia.
The woman, 66, who was in a wheelchair, was attacked at her bungalow at 3.30am on Saturday at Ras Kitau on the northern island of Manda.
Two coastguard vessels and a police helicopter gave chase, but the kidnappers managed to enter Somali territory in a motor boat.
The BBC reports it was the second abduction of a foreign visitor in three weeks.
Tourism minister Najib Balala told the BBC the area is difficult to police.
France has warned French visitors to avoid the area.
