Three different government agencies in Honiara are reviewing Taiwan relations ahead of a possible cabinet decision on the issue.

Ms Ebert-Gray, who is also ambassador to Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu, told Taiwan's Central News Agency the country has been "an exceptional partner".

"From our perspective, you have been a really good partner for the Solomon Islands and other countries too," Ms Ebert-Gray said.

"The US embraces that, and we are always willing to support Taiwan's activities around the world."
