Traffic north of Wellington on State Highway 1 has come to a standstill with long delays, after an earlier crash at Paekākāriki.

The road was blocked after two vehicles crashed at the Beach Road intersection on SH1, about 2.45pm, injuring two people.
Police earlier asked motorists to avoid the area.
The road was reopened just before 5pm, and police thanked motorists for their patience.
However, long queues of traffic were still at a standstill into the evening.
The intersection is a bottleneck for traffic heading north from Wellington, with two major roads meeting, along with access to Paekākāriki and a railway crossing.
