The Independent Police Conduct Authority (IPCA) has released a report on the allegation following the man's arrest and police interview on 3 May, 2019.

Police arrested the man as part of an inquiry into an incident that occurred at Dunedin Airport in March of that year.

The man claims the two officers threatened him and his family and behaved aggressively in an attempt to forcefully extract a statement.

IPCA chair Judge Colin Doherty said there was no information that supported the man's allegation.

"The officers' accounts were consistent and supported by the evidence," he said.

"The officers' comments were relevant in the circumstances that they were made."

The authority concluded that the officers' behaviour was reasonable in the circumstances.

Southern district commander superintendent Paul Basham said the review found the officers' conduct aligned well with police values.

"Police deal with difficult matters every day, and in this case the officers achieved a good result following a thorough investigation," Basham said.
