Two people died in crashes last night, one in Hawke's Bay and the other in Waikato.
The police say a pedestrian died following a crash involving a truck on State Highway 50 in Maraekakaho in the Hastings district.
Initial indications are the person may have been unloading equipment from another truck when the collision occurred.
And in Wharepapa South in the Waipa district, a person has died after an earlier single-vehicle crash on Waipapa Road.
The police say a second person was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
The roads where the two crashes happened remain closed, with diversions in place.
Investigations into the causes are underway.
