An arrest has been made after a man died following what police describe as a hit and run in Henderson.

Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Williams said emergency services were called to the scene of a crash in The Concourse, an industrial street near the Northwestern motorway, about 8pm on Friday.

A man had been hit by a vehicle and was found seriously injured, he said.

"He sadly died at the scene."

After a police investigation, a 42-year-old man was arrested and charged with failing to stop to ascertain injury or death following a crash, Williams said.

The man is expected to appear at Waitakere District Court on 6 October.
