Northland lines company Northpower says 60,000 properties now have power back on after a region-wide outage today - but there is no hot water.

Northpower says 65,000 of the properties it supplies were affected, and it is now back on for all but 5000, which are businesses and industrial customers that do not need power right now.

Transpower earlier said Northland lost power after a tower fell near Glorit about 11am and most of its 65,000 customers were affected. Top Energy was also reporting outages from Kaitāia to Cape Reinga.
