New Zealand Paralympian Cameron Leslie has been nominated for the Laureus World Sports Awards.

Leslie is a nominee for World Sportsperson with a Disability.

A dual Paralympian, Leslie competes in both Wheelchair rugby for the Wheel Blacks, and Para swimming.

He won a gold and three silver medals at last year's World Para Swimming Champs and co-captained the Wheel Blacks at the Wheelchair Rugby World Championship in Denmark, where they finished eighth.

Swiss wheelchair racer Catherine Debrunner, US para ice hockey player Declan Farmer, Dutch wheelchair tennis player Diede de Groot, Norwegian para alpine skier Jesper Pedersen and US para cross country skier and cyclist Oksana Masters are also in contention for the award.

Previous New Zealanders to win a Laureus award include All Black Dan Carter and the All Blacks team in 2016, the late Sir Peter Blake, and moto-cross rider Levi Sherwood.

Leslie is the only New Zealand finalist this year however with the world champion Black Ferns overlooked for team of the year, while snowboarder Zoi Sadowski-Synnott and golfer Lydia Ko missed out in the sportswoman category.
