Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Monday
The Situation
A weakening cold front moves north over the North Island today, while a disturbed south to southwest flow lies over the South Island. The southerly flow is expected to ease tomorrow as a ridge builds over the country. Northwesterlies strengthen over the far south of the South Island tomorrow night.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland, Auckland, Coromandel and Bay of Plenty
Rain spreading from the south, then easing to isolated showers this evening.
Waikato to Horowhenua, including the central high country
Rain, briefly heavy, then easing to scattered showers this afternoon. Thunderstorms possible from south Taranaki southwards tonight. Showers clearing tomorrow afternoon.
Gisborne, Hawke's Bay
Mainly fine. Scattered showers developing tomorrow, easing later.
Kapiti, Wellington, Wairarapa
Partly cloudy. Showers developing tonight, clearing late tomorrow morning.
Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury
Scattered showers spreading north this afternoon and evening, with possible thunderstorms about Canterbury and the Kaikoura Coast, clearing tomorrow morning.
Buller to Fiordland
Showers, clearing south of Grey this evening, and elsewhere tomorrow morning.
Otago, Southland
Scattered showers, falling as snow above 500 metres this afternoon. Showers easing tonight, and clearing tomorrow morning.
Chatham Islands
A few light showers at times.

Saturday
North Island: Fine, apart from isolated showers in the west and far north. South Island: Rain developing in the west, with some heavy falls south of Buller in the evening. Isolated showers elsewhere, but dry for Canterbury Plains and eastern Marlborough.
Sunday
North Island: isolated showers in the north. Scattered rain developing from Taranaki to Wellington, mainly dry in the east. South Island: Rain in the west, with heavy falls, easing to showers from the south. Scattered rain elsewhere, clearing later apart from the north and Stewart Island.
Monday
North Island: Rain gradually spreading east, more persistent about Taranaki and Horowhenua Kapiti Coast later. Mainly dry about Hawke's Bay and Gisborne. South Island: Rain in the north. Showers about Fiordland and Westland. Mainly fine elsewhere, but scattered showers for Southland and Clutha.
And at the Chathams
Cloudy periods. Light winds on Saturday, and northwesterlies developing Sunday.
