The Situation
A ridge of high pressure dominates over Aotearoa/New Zealand today. Tomorrow a weak front approaches the south of the South Island from the southwest, ending the day about Fiordland.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland, Auckland and Coromandel
Mainly fine, isolated showers during the afternoons and evenings.
Bay of Plenty and Rotorua
Often cloudy. Isolated showers developing this evening, some possibly heavy from tomorrow afternoon, clearing tomorrow evening.
Waikato to Waitomo, also the central high country
Mainly fine. Isolated showers this afternoon and evening, mostly about the ranges.
Gisborne, Hawke's Bay
Mainly fine. Isolated showers during the afternoons and evenings, mostly about the ranges.
Whanganui to Wellington, also Wairarapa and Nelson to Marlborough
Mainly fine, areas of cloud from Manawatu to Wellington tomorrow.
Buller, Grey, Westland and Fiordland
Cloudy periods. Isolated showers, turning to rain in southern Fiordland late tomorrow.
Canterbury, Otago and Southland
Mainly fine, isolated showers during the afternoons and evenings. Low cloud or fog about coastal Canterbury tomorrow morning.
Chatham Islands
Fine spells.

Wednesday
North Island: Mainly fine. Afternoon and evening showers on and north of the central plateau. South Island: A period of rain for Fiordland and Southland. Scattered showers elsewhere.
Thursday
North Island: Mainly fine, isolated afternoon or evening showers for most, some possibly heavy for Gisborne and eastern Bay of Plenty South Island: Rain developing in the west and south, with possibly heavy falls for Fiordland and Westland. Scattered showers elsewhere.
Friday
North Island: A few showers developing in the west. Mainly fine elsewhere with isolated afternoon showers about the ranges. South Island: Rain in the west, easing. Partly cloudy elsewhere with isolated afternoon and evening showers.

Mainly fine Wednesday, cloud increasing Thursday with isolated showers developing late. Showers clearing Friday and becoming fine. Northerlies dying out overnight Wednesday. Northwesterlies developing early Friday, changing southwest later Friday.
