Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Tuesday

The Situation

A ridge of high pressure persists over the North Island today and tomorrow, while a front lingers over Fiordland and southern Westland.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

In the west from Northland to Manawatu, also Coromandel

Long fine spells. Isolated showers about Northland tomorrow afternoon and evening.

Bay of Plenty and the central high country

Mainly fine. Areas of cloud tomorrow morning, and isolated showers tomorrow afternoon and evening.

Horowhenua to Wellington

Often cloudy, but long fine spells during the afternoons.

Gisborne to Wairarapa, also Nelson, Marlborough, and Canterbury

Fine.

Buller, Grey and Westland

Cloudy periods with the odd shower, gradually becoming heavier and more frequent, possibly heavy south of Haast.

Otago and Southland

Fine for much of today, but scattered showers developing from the south this afternoon and evening.

Fiordland

Rain, with heavy falls, easing tomorrow evening.

Chatham Islands

Cloudy periods.

And the outlook for the following three days...

Sunday

North Island: Partly cloudy, with isolated showers. South Island: Occasional rain in the south and west, becoming heavier and spreading north to Canterbury later. Otherwise fine.

Monday

North Island: Fine spells and isolated showers. Rain spreading north from Wellington to Gisborne from afternoon. South Island: Occasional rain or showers for most, but becoming fine in Westland and the far south later.

Tuesday

North Island: Rain in the east, clearing. Isolated showers elsewhere. South Island: Showers developing in the west, mainly fine elsewhere.

And at the Chathams

Mainly fine on Sunday. Showers developing on Monday, then becoming fine again on Tuesday. Northerlies, changing strong southwest on Monday, easing to lighter southwesterlies on Tuesday.
