The Situation

A front moves onto the country today, bringing a strengthening northeasterly flow. Tomorrow, a northerly flow covers the country with the slow-moving front lying over northern and central New Zealand.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

Northland

Periods of rain.

Auckland to Taranaki

Areas of rain developing this afternoon, easing to isolated showers tomorrow morning.

Bay of Plenty to Wellington including the central high country

Mostly cloudy. Areas of rain developing today, easing to isolated showers tomorrow morning, then clearing.

Gisborne to Wairarapa

Mostly cloudy with isolated light showers, more widespread this evening and tomorrow morning. Becoming fine later tomorrow.

Nelson and Buller to Fiordland

Periods of rain. Some heavy falls about the ranges, possibly thundery in Westland and Fiordland from this evening.

Marlborough and Canterbury

Mostly cloudy with scattered rain, clearing south of the Kaikoura's tomorrow morning.

Otago and Southland

Mostly cloudy and a few spots of rain, more persistent about Stewart Island.

Chatham Islands

Mostly cloudy. A few light showers clearing tomorrow morning as fine spells develop.

Friday

North Island: Rain developing in the north and west in the morning, possibly heavy, spreading elsewhere in the afternoon. South Island: Rain developing in the north and west, with heavy falls. Rain spreading elsewhere from afternoon.

Saturday

North Island: Rain with heavy falls, easing to showers in the morning, and clearing in the east. South Island: Showers in the north and west, some heavy. Mainly fine elsewhere.

Sunday

North Island: Showers turning to rain for a time in the north and west. Partly cloudy in the east. South Island: Rain from Buller to Westland. A few showers elsewhere.

And at the Chathams

A few light showers and northeasterly winds developing on Friday. Showers increasing and northeasterlies becoming strong on Saturday. Showers and strong northeasterlies continuing on Sunday.
