Marti Friedlander has worked as an independent photographer arriving in Auckland in 1958 at the age of 30.
She now has a reputation as one of New Zealand's pre-eminent portrait photographers, and alongside that, her work is often seen to capture the essence of "New Zealand-ness".
Marti talks to Kim Hill about her work and life.
