These are non-traditional taco flavours but it all works together brilliantly and makes a quick mid-week meal.

Serves 4

Ingredients

For the fish:

  • 500g firm white fish
  • 1/2 cup cornflour
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Oil or ghee for frying

For the caper mayo:

  • ½ cup good quality mayonnaise
  • 2 Tbsp capers
  • ½ tsp dried dill
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • Sea salt and cracked black pepper

To serve:

  • 8 soft corn tortillas (or flour tortillas)
  • Finely shredded cabbage
  • 1 avocado – stone removed and sliced thinly
  • 2 radishes – sliced thinly
  • Handful fresh coriander – roughly chopped

Method

Combine the caper mayonnaise ingredients in a small bowl and stir well. Season generously. Place in fridge until ready to use.

Combine the cornflour, spices and salt in a large bowl.

Cut the fish into bite-sized pieces and toss together with the flour.

Heat 1cm of oil in a sauté pan over a medium-high heat. Cook the fish in two batches (to avoid overcrowding the pan) until golden and crunchy. A minute or so on each on each side should be plenty.

Heat the tortillas. Top each with some shredded cabbage, avocado and some radish slices. Place a few pieces of fish on each and drizzle with the caper mayonnaise.
