He Tōtara Wāhi Rua He Kai Nā Te Ahi - A Totara Split in Two is Fuel For the Fire is from a novel about the extinction of the New Zealand huia, which is still in progress. The events surrounding the huia’s extinction are a catalogue of missed opportunities and lessons learnt only in hindsight.
Carolyn Cossey holds a Masters of Creative Writing from the University of Auckland. She has been published in Landfall, Headland, Flash Frontier and Bonsai, with work that ranges from flash fiction to long-form essays, as well as having a novel in progress.
