About RNZ Commissioning
Whether it’s factual or entertainment content, the RNZ Commissioning Team aim to uncover, support and work with the most promising external producers, creatives and networks to strengthen and progress public service programming in Aotearoa.
- We are committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and at least half of our commissions will be Māori content (defined using partnership, participation and protection).
- RNZ currently reaches a record 83% of New Zealanders. Primary projects we commission are focussed on priority audiences that haven't traditionally connected with RNZ. These audiences include te ao Māori, Pasifika and Pan-Asian communities. We’re looking for content that serves these audiences along with rangatahi.
The way we describe our audiences are:
Foundational: This core group represents our loyal base, with whom we seek to increase the frequency of our engagement
Emerging: We’re committed to connecting with a more complete representation of contemporary Aotearoa with an emphasis on people who are typically more digitally reliant and engaged.
Transformational: It's our goal to be at the forefront of innovation, meeting emerging audience needs by creating new forms of content utilising the attributes of current and fast evolving platforms.
Primary external content commissioning focuses on emerging and transformational audiences. The content should resonate with these audiences considering demographics, interests, and cultural context. - We’re also open to looking at relevant educational NZ history or natural world documentaries.
