The Archduke Concert
Wilma Smith (violin), Eliah Sakakushev (cello), Michael Houstoun (piano)
The trio consists of two of New Zealand “musical treasures” and long time chamber music partners - pianist Michael Houstoun and violinist Wilma Smith. They will be joined by the principal cellist of the Auckland Philharmonia’s Eliah Sakakushev.
The concert features three of the favourites piano trios in the repertoire. Mozart’s last trio and Ravel’s one and only lyrical trio will make up the first half of the programme, while the second half will be devoted to Beethoven’s “Archduke Trio”, widely regarded as the greatest of all works for this combination of instruments.
