The marimba is a young instrument in the Western classical music world, but it’s gradually become a more accepted instrument for ensemble and solo performance since Darius Milhaud’s groundbreaking 1947 Concerto for Marimba and Vibraphone.
Japanese composer Kohei Mukai is a friend of the teacher of today's marimba player Naoto Segawa. Naoto's teacher commissioned the work.
