Korngold moved to Vienna as a four year-old when his father succeeded Eduard Hanslick as the music critic for the Neue Freie Presse (New Free Press). His music education and opportunities for performance of his early compositions were there in Vienna.
Korngold's second string quartet was written in 1933 just before he moved to Hollywood. There he arranged Mendelssohn's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' for Max Reinhard's film version. He also wrote original film scores, soon signing an exclusive contract with Warner Bros, and winning his first Oscar for Best Film Score in 1936.
His 'String Quartet No 2' features Viennese lightness, the use of dance forms, and touches of Impressionism.
The members of Jerusalem Quartet are: Alexander Pavolvsky (violin), Sergei Bresler (violin), Ori Kam (viola) and Kyril Zlotnikov (cello).
