The six quartets of Op 18 fall among Beethoven’s early works, composed when he was living in Vienna and coming to terms with his loss of hearing. At this time, his style was changing. Classical ideals were beginning to be rejected in the search for a new form of expression and the quartets were no doubt in response to the impressive works of Mozart and Haydn.
This quartet has four movements:
- Allegro
- Menuetto
- Andante cantabile
- Allegro
