Kapa haka group Tūwhitia kia Angitu performs at the Auckland Arts Festival's 'Pūmanawa'.
Presented by Shannon Haunui-Thompson.
Tūwhitia Kia Angitu, known as Angitu for short is an emerging group of young performers from throughout Tāmaki Makaurau, representatives of iwi from across Te Ika a Māui.
Angitu are the new kids on the block in kapa haka. They haven’t performed at Te Matatini yet, but they have earned the right to represent Tāmaki Makaurau at the next event in 2022, Te Matatini Herenga Waka, Herenga Tangata.
They take their name from a whakataukī (proverb) by Ahorangi Te Wharehuia Milroy: “Tūwhitia te hopo, mairangatia te angitu”, “Relinquish all fear and ascend to success”.
Included in this programme is an interview with one of their leaders, Pere Wihongi.
Also, Shannon talks to Ataahua Papa, Kaihautū Māori nō Te Ahurei Toi o Tāmaki
