Wellington Jazz Festival 2023: Jake Baxendale

Jake Baxendale (saxophone), Chelsea Prastiti (vocals), Callum Passells (alto & sopranino saxophones), Daniel Hayles (piano, vibraphone), Cory Champion (drums, percussion), Johnny Lawrence (double bass), Jessie Ling (guzheng)

Composer and saxophonist Jake Baxendale presents his WJF-commissioned composition "Waypeople". A song in several parts, the composition features lyrics inspired by Lao Tzu's "Tao Te Ching" as interpreted by Ursula Le Guin.

Music Alive

Catch the first broadcast of a new recording from New Zealand, or something from overseas - perhaps from the European Broadcasting Union, the Salzburg Festival or the Sydney Opera House. The NZSO are regular performers, and Thursdays are often the domain of the Auckland Philharmonia; You might hear an ensemble touring with Chamber Music New Zealand, something from the Wellington Jazz Festival or music from around the world via the WOMAD festival.

Tune into Music Alive on RNZ Concert on Monday to Friday at 8pm, with Opera at 7pm on Saturday
