Maisey Rika sings to the stars.
William Dart celebrates Maori Language Week with Maisey's superb new album, Ngā Mata o te Ariki Tāwhirimātea.
Maisey Rika’s new album is a celebration of Matariki. Like a lot of music today, it’s a project that grew out of the limitations of lockdown – a project that burst into a constellation of nine star songs, written under the guidance of the noted Māori astronomer Rangi Matamua.
The songs have been lovingly produced in collaboration with a number of different musicians and William features those with Anna Coddington, Mahuia Bridgeman-Cooper, Tiki Taane, and Seth Haapu.
William opens the programme by playing waiata featuring, among others, Prince Tui Teka, Moana & The Moahunters, and Tama Waipara.
