Husband and wife piano team Jian Liu and Freya Wang are founding members of the New Zealand Music Trust, set up in 2020.

The purpose of the Trust, says Jian, is to connect people and cultures through various projects and through music.

"We've done competitions to connect with local communities and with music teachers and their students."

The Trust's latest offering is a set of piano volumes - a collaboration between the New Zealand Music Trust and Shanghai Music Publishing House in China.

New Zealand Piano Works, Vol 1 & 2 feature 38 works by 24 New Zealand composers. These volumes mark the first publication of New Zealand music in China, while Chinese Piano Music for Children, Vol 1 & 2 is the first collection of Chinese music to be published in New Zealand.

The official launch of the piano books takes place in Wellington on Friday 17 March and includes performances by students of IRMT teachers. Pianists Diedre Irons and Hamish Robb will also play works from both publications.
